The problem

Nobody teaches you the back half.

TABLE 4 · INTERVIEW"Your GP is two points down. What do you do?"
TABLE 7 · INTERVIEW"Talk me through how you forecast a week."
TABLE 9 · INTERVIEW"Labour is at 34%. Fix it."

You learned the floor by doing it: guests, team, service, a full book on a Saturday. The other half of the job you picked up by accident, if at all. Stock takes. Rotas against a labour target. VAT, tronc and the Tips Act. Licences, risk assessments, right to work.

That back half is what GM interviews test, what owners judge you on, and what decides your bonus. GM Ready teaches it one idea at a time, with real UK numbers, worked examples and the follow-up questions interviewers actually ask.

The VAT trap

A dish sells for £19.50. The plate costs £4.80. What's the GP?

The common wrong answer is 75.4%. It counts the government's VAT as your money. Every lesson in GM Ready works like this: you answer first, then see why.

It's for you if

  • You're a supervisor, AGM or assistant manager in a UK restaurant, pub or bar.
  • You're good on the floor and want the GM role, or have an interview coming.
  • You're a new GM who wants to understand the P&L properly.

It's not for you if

  • You're outside the UK. The law and the numbers are UK-specific.
  • You want front-of-house service training. This is the office side.
  • You want a job guarantee. Nobody honest can give one.

Written by a restaurant manager with 12 years on high-volume London floors, for people doing the job now. Pay rates, tax and law were checked against GOV.UK and official guidance in October 2026, and every legal lesson shows where it applies and links to its source.

One payment

Less than one week's difference in a GM's pay.

GM roles in London are advertised at £55,000–£65,000 and more. The course costs £147 once, with lifetime access and free updates when UK rules change.

Questions

FAQ

How long does it take?

It's self-paced, so it's up to you. Each lesson is short, so you can do one on a break. Most people work through it over a few days or a couple of weeks.

Is there video?

No, on purpose. Every lesson is short, interactive reading with worked examples, calculators and questions. It's quicker to study on your phone between shifts, and you have to think, not just watch.

Do I need to be a manager already?

No. It's written for supervisors and assistant managers who know the floor. It starts from what a GM owns and builds up from there.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Log in on your phone, tablet or laptop and your progress follows you.

Is it up to date?

Yes. It uses 2026/27 figures: the £12.71 National Living Wage, 15% employer NI, the new business rates multipliers, Statutory Sick Pay from day one, the Employment Rights Act 2025 timeline, and more. You get free updates when rules change.

Is it UK-only?

Yes. The numbers, tax and people skills work anywhere in the UK. The law and compliance lessons are written for England, and each one says where Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland differ.

Is this legal or financial advice?

No. It's education for restaurant managers. For a specific legal or tax question, check with HR, an accountant or a solicitor.

Can my company pay?

Yes. For a receipt in your company's name, or for several managers, email hello@gmready.com.

What if it's not for me?

Email within 14 days of buying and we'll refund you in full.
